Degrees 3.10 BM in Performance Degree Plan, 2004-2006, Vocal, Instrumental, and Keyboard March 9, 2005 BACHELOR OF MUSIC IN PERFORMANCE--INSTRUMENTAL, KEYBOARD OR VOCAL TRACK Academic Foundations (Core Courses) 39-41 Hours The core curriculum requirement (academic foundations) for the Bachelor of Music--Performance degree is the same for instrumental, vocal, or keyboard emphasis with the exception of the additional Foreign Language requirement for vocal performance and the Kinesiology (PE) requirement. Instrumental students will automatically be enrolled in University Marching Band each fall semester. Four semesters of Marching Band counts for the entire Kinesiology requirement. Vocal and keyboard students will need to complete two KNES activity courses or one KNES activity course and KNES 1011 Fundamentals of Physical Activity and Health. Vocal and keyboard students can still be a member of the University Marching Band and complete the KNES requirement with four semesters of marching band. However, vocal students must still use University Singers as their major ensemble and would need to be in both University Singers and University Marching Band to fulfill the KNES requirement in this way.

FREN 1134 Introduction to French and FREN 1234 Introduction to French or Music CoursesThe music degree coursework is the same for instrumental, keyboard, or vocal emphasis unless notated below. Music Theory Courses (6 Semesters - 18 hours) MUSC 1601/1603 Music Theory I Music Literature and History (3 Semesters-9 hours) MUSC 3723 Western and World Music Literature Conducting (2 Semesters-5 to 6 hours) MUSC 4843 Basic Conducting Music Technology (1 semester-3 hours) MUSC 4893 Music Technology Primary Performing Area (24 hours) 8 semesters of private lessons of 1 hour each, 3 credit-hours each semester. Advanced Electives in Music (must be 3xxx level or above) 3 hours for vocal emphasis, 8 hours for keyboard emphasis, and 7 hours for instrumental emphasis. Major Ensemble (8 hours) 8 semesters of major ensemble. University Singers for vocal emphasis and Marching Band (fall) and Symphonic Band/Wind Ensemble (spring) for instrumental emphasis. Keyboard students select from University Singers or Marching Band/Symphonic Band/Wind Ensemble. Recital Attendance ( 8 semesters-0 hours) Recital Attendance is pass/fail. Student must enroll in and receive 'credit' for eight semesters. Piano Proficiency (0-4 hours, for vocal performance and instrumental performance only) The student must pass the piano proficiency before performing the senior recital preview. Junior and Senior Recital The student must perform a 30-minute junior recital and a one-hour senior recital.
