BACHELOR OF MUSIC with TEACHER CERTIFICATION—INSTRUMENTAL and VOCAL

Academic Foundations (Core Courses) 39-41 Hours

The core curriculum requirement (academic foundations) for the Bachelor of Music--Teacher Certification degree is the same for instrumental emphasis or vocal emphasis with the exception of the Kinesiology (PE) requirement.  Instrumental students will automatically be enrolled in University Marching Band each fall semester.  Four semesters of Marching Band counts for the entire Kinesiology requirement.  Vocal students will need to complete two KNES activity courses or one KNES activity course and KNES 1011 Fundamentals of Physical Activity and Health.  Vocal students can still be a member of the University Marching Band and complete the KNES requirement with four semesters of marching band.  However, vocal students must still use University Singers as their major ensemble and would need to be in both University Singers and University Marching Band to fulfill the KNES requirement in this way.  Vocal students who choose to fulfill the KNES requirement in this way can also count two semesters of upper-level Marching Band as their Advanced Electives (2 hours required under music classes).
