1.31    Akin Auditorium

March 8, 2005

Akin Auditorium is the principle performing hall for music activities at Midwestern State University, and is located in the north end of the Hardin Administration Building. Music program activities take precedence over all other uses of the auditorium. Akin Auditorium will remain locked at all times unless opened by a responsible faculty or staff member.

The Bolin Piano in Akin Auditorium is to remain locked when not in use. Music faculty members have a key to the Bolin Piano and should be contacted in advance when the piano is needed.

The MSU Policies and Procedures Manual states in section 4.115 H, “No student will be permitted the use of the buildings anytime except regular building hours unless accompanied by a faculty or staff member.”

The music office keeps a current calendar of concerts, recitals, and rehearsals for Akin. All students and faculty are responsible for scheduling rehearsals, recitals, and performances through the music office well in advance of the activity. Any use of Akin Auditorium by faculty or students may be reserved by completing an Akin Auditorium Reservation Form in the music office. Activities and recitals will be placed on the official calendar only after the form is completed. For student recitals, it is assumed that the hall may be reserved from 7-10 p.m. The music office will contact maintenance and the central plant for heating and cooling after the form is completed. A minimum of one-week notice is necessary to insure the availability of heat and cooling.

Any use of Akin Auditorium be outside music groups should be approved by the Chair of the Department of Music.
