General Departmental Policies 1.01 Personal-Computer Software Policy March 8, 2005 It is the policy of Midwestern State University that all state and federal laws relating to unauthorized copying of personal computer (PC) software and copyright infringement be strictly observed. Any employee who is found to be guilty of such violations shall be subject to all penalties prescribed by law and may be subject to disciplinary action be Midwestern State University. Any requisition for the purchase of a personal computer shall include all necessary software as well. Included in this requirement is the operating system, work processing software, spreadsheet software, and any other deemed to be necessary for the intended use of the PC. In the event that PC software is to be transferred from an old PC to the new PC, the old PC must be identified by inventory number and the requisition must include a statement signed by the end user that the software will be erased from the old PC. Failure to comply with this provision will result in the requisition being returned to the person who initiated it. (Reference: MSU Policies and Procedures Manual, No. 3.338) Every music-faculty member is responsible for ensuring that their school-supplied or personally owned computer (on campus) complies with the intent of the University’s PC software policy. Students that have access to on-campus computers are responsible for complying with the intent of the University PC software policy.
