Band Camp 2008 The 2008 Midwestern State University Band Camp will be held on the MSU campus in Wichita Falls, Texas, on June 9-13, 2008. This year's Band Camp will feature bands for beginning students and for students in grades 7-12. All the bands will perform on a final concert on Friday, June 13, at 7 p.m. in D. L. General Camp Information New for 2008: There will not be any auditions on Sunday afternoon. All beginners and those with only a week or two of playing experience will be placed in the Cadet Band. All seventh and eighth grade students (Fall 2008) will be placed initially in the Symphonic Band. All high-school students will be placed initially in the Honors Band. Students could be moved between bands if it provides a better band experience for the student. New for 2008: Housing is available in the MSU dormitories. Housing is available from Sunday night to Thursday night. Five nights lodging and meals (three per day) beginning on Sunday evening through Friday evening is at a cost of $200. Students who wish to stay in the MSU dormitories MUST preregister. Contact Mr. Alan Black for more information. Students can register early for the 2008 MSU Summer Band Camp by
submitting the Registration Form, the registration fee, and the
Authorization for Medical Treatment Form by mail. A letter containing
all necessary camp information will be returned to students who register
by mail. Early registration by mail must be postmarked by June 2,
2008. After that time, students may register in person at the
opening assembly on Monday morning, June 9, at 8:00 a.m. in the Fine
Arts Auditorium. All students except Cadet (beginning) Band students
will audition on Monday morning, June 9 for
chair placement in their respective Honors or Symphonic Band. All students get
their name badges, meal
tickets, etc. at the opening assembly on Monday morning, June 9.
Housing is available in the MSU dormatories for
Sunday night through Thursday night.
Students who wish to stay in the
dormatories MUST preregister. Students
may purchase a five-day lunch-only meal ticket for the cafeteria in the
Clark Student Center at a cost of $30 or eat on their own in the snack
bar in the Clark Student Center. The snack bar serves hamburgers, tacos,
pizza, and sandwiches. All camp participants are required to participate
in the final concert on Friday, June 13 at 7 p.m. in the D. L. Ligon
Coliseum. Optional evening recreational activities may include skating,
movies, sports, miniature golf, or other activities arranged by the
staff. Camp activities include band rehearsals, sectionals (rehearsals
of each instrument section alone), concerts, recitals, and instrument
techniques classes. The daily schedule is:
