Admission Requirements

All students who wish to major in music should contact the Music Department at (940) 397-4267 or by email at Music Department.  Be sure to include your name, email address, mailing address with zip code, home phone number, voice part or instrument played, high-school graduation date, and anticipated date of attendance at MSU.

All entering music majors should make an appointment to visit with a music faculty member prior to enrollment for classes.  All students at MSU are assigned a faculty advisor to help with the selection of MSU's Hardin Administration Buildingcoursework and the completion of degree plans.  All music majors are assigned a faculty advisor from within the Music Department.  Transfer students should bring with them an unofficial transcript of all course work previously completed.

Entering students may be required to take music placement tests.  Preparatory study or considerable experience in the field of performance concentration is required of all majors.  Advanced standing of transfer students will be determined by placement tests and evaluation of scholastic standing.

All music majors, with the exception of keyboard performance majors, are required to maintain continuous enrollment in piano class or private piano (with approval from the chair of keyboard studies) until the keyboard proficiency is passed.

All music majors must participate in at least one major ensemble for credit each semester of enrollment except during the semester of student teaching.

All music majors are required to maintain continuous enrollment in their primary performance area until successfully completing the senior recital.
